Will my stomach get used to juicing a mixture of vegetables?

by Dianne
(Maryland)

When I juice a mix of vegetables, the next day I feel like my stomach is going to blow up. I have so much gas, I had to leave work. I am to the point that I feel like I can't drink the juice. Will I eventually get used to it? What can I do? THANK YOU!

Sara says:

Dear Dianne,

I am curious as to what vegetables you juice that are causing you so much gas.

Anyhow, this sounds like a bad symptom of an imbalanced intestinal flora (more bad bacteria in your intestines than good bacteria).

The causes of this problem could be due to a dietary of mostly meat, dairy products, processed foods or prolonged drugs (medication) intake.

I suggest that you go on a course of quality probiotics and prebiotics to help balance the intestinal flora again. (Check with your local health store, NOT the pharmacy!) Take juices in small amounts and try the milder juices initially (e.g. carrots, green apples, cucumber, spinach, lettuce, etc.) Slowly increase the amount depending on how your body respond to it. As your intestinal flora improve, the gas and bloatedness should reduce.

One other thing you could do next time you make your vegetable juice -- throw into your juicer half an inch of ginger that can help to reduce the gas.

Be blessed! ;)
