What to juice for a diabetic?
by Clarence Frazier
I am a diabetic, but I do believe in jucing. I was in the hospital back in January for congestive heart failure. They also said I had high blood pressure and put me on THREE different blood pressure medicenes. They also said my body was not producing enough red blood cells which they said could be cancer.
After leaving the hospital, I started jucing again (because I had been lack and had not juiced in a long while. I started feeling pretty good and even gained a little weight. For years, I had always weighed between 155lbs and 165lbs. One month after being out of the hospital, I went in for a check-up. The doctor was a little puzzled. They checked my blood and said my red blood count had come up from an 8.2 while in the hospital to a NOW 10.7. Also, my present weight was 188lbs. I told him that I had started juicing again and I was not eating any meats. I was only eating chicken,fish and turkey. He told me I was doing fine.
THEN, I got my disapointment. I went to my kidney doctor. He said I show signs of kidney failure and my potassium level was way too high. He also said I was retaining fluid which could be seen in my ankels and feet. He put me on another drug medication and said it was the only thing that would help me. He said I would have to stop juicing any and all green vegs because of the high potassium in them. I DON'T LIKE DRUGS.
I have a few questions;
(1) Can I still juice certain vegs that would be good for me yet keep my potassium levels down?
This drug he gave me is suppose to make me urinate more which is suppose to help eliminate water retension.
(2) Is there any natural herb of veg. I can take that would help do the same thing?
(3) Even though I am a diabetic and I know kidney problems is a cause from the diabetes, is there a natural herb or veg. that will help in keeping the kidneys healthy?
Any information is appreciated. Thanks.
From Sara:Clarence, my heart goes out to you. You've been put on so much medication, no wonder you're suffering from so many problems. I can identify with you.
My mom discovered she had diabetes 20 years ago. If only she had known how to manage her diet she would have been fine now. Contrary to what most people think, diabetes CAN be reversed with proper dietary that is full of fresh healing fruits and vegetables. My mom had been on medication for 20 years and is now suffering all the side effects of drugs - high blood pressure, cholesterol, eye disorders, nerves degeneration, poor blood circulation, arteriosclerosis, heart diseases, yeast infection, stomach ulcers, kidney problems, and the list goes on ... The only thing I could do to help her now is to ensure she eats properly and lessen her pains. Healing will be a long road because of the deep damages already done.
Now hear this, potassium from vegetables DOES NOT cause water retention. It is sodium that causes water retention so you need to cut down on sodium (salt). Potassium helps drive out harmful sodium from your system. You don't want to keep your potassium down, it is already very lacking in your body.
Adding plenty of green vegetables in your dietary, whether by juicing or by eating, is the right thing to do. Have a big bowl of fresh salad (with apple cider vinegar + flaxseed oil + raw honey as the dressing) every day and you will begin to see your health improving.
Clarence, you're doing the right thing by "not liking drugs". Start to learn to eat right and learn about holistic nutrition and you will soon see that you may not need those drugs anymore. God bless!
