What juices are best for anemia?

by Tatyana
(UK)

I have Crohns and have been fighting anemia for 4 yrs now. I am ok with my foods (just about) considering my Crohns but iron deficiency anemia is my downside. I tried fresh wheatgrass juice, but the smell and taste is so revolting. My mum and my son are ok with it, but every time I have a drink I feel really nauseous and after-taste is disgusting.

I must say that I dont have any problem with other foods. Can you please advise me with some other juices rich in iron and is there any point in drinking wheatgrass if I feel sick?

I have to stress that I have to juice because I cannot tolerate raw or cooked vegetables and some fruits. I have been juicing pineapple, carrot and apple and grapefruit is ok. In the summer I can eat only apricot.

Thank you very much and I love your site.

Sara says:

Many people have told me that wheatgrass juice is revolting. But it isn't really. Wheatgrass juice actually taste sweet if you extract it using a gear juicer. It is revolting only when you extract it using a centrifugal juicer.

You feel nauseous after drinking wheatgrass juice because it is very potent. And because your body is very toxic, the potency of green juices detoxifies so effectively that it's "dumping" more toxic into your system but cannot be eliminated quickly enough due to your thickened blood. The toxicity during this temporary moment caused you to be nauseous

There are many other juices one can take to help improve an anemic situation. Some suggestions are: acerola, apricot, avocado, banana, beetroot, carrot, cranberries, dates, pomegranate, prunes, strawberries, tomato, etc.

However, I would be lying to you if I say that juicing alone can help your anemia or improve your Crohn's disease. Even fruit juices may not be suitable for you as in your case, it is likely that you may have Candida overgrowth. In the meantime, you may also take spirulina or chlorella in tablet form, both are "whole food" and very rich in chlorophyll that is blood-building.

My site is limited to juicing, thus I cannot advise you in detail on what to do. But I would like to point you in the right direction towards reversing this disease. Please learn more about the following, and begin to work towards getting well again. What you will need to do is to clean up your system, in this order:

1) Colonic irrigation. Start taking high quality probiotics and high dosage vitamin C with bioflavonoids (read up about vitamin C tolerance level).

2) Gastrointestinal detox by taking fiber drinks

3) Liver detox (one method is by using Gerson Therapy)

4) A gallbladder and liver flush

5) Eliminate these harmful foods from your dietary

6) Step up on fresh fruits and vegetables. Once you've done the above detox properly, you will be able to tolerate vegetables (whether raw or cooked).

I don't know how advanced you are with your condition, but don't let the doctors tell you that there is no cure! There is hope. You may or may not be able to tolerate any of the above, go slow. Natural healing takes months or possibly years but you will get better and better. Make living healthy a habit, a lifestyle. Please get well, if not for yourself, at least for your son's sake.

God bless.
