New to juicing: which juicer to buy?

Centrifugal juicer vs gear juicer
Sara, as an overweight, out-of-energy, lack-of-sleep, 31 yr old male, I have now decided to turn my life around. Besides taking on an excercise routine and eating right, I decided to give juicing a try in order to maximize my lifestyle makeover.
From your site, I have read and researched on both the centrifugal juicers and the augur juicers. Since budget is an important consideration for me, I wanted to know how much of a waste (both financially and produce related) it would be if I purchased a centrifugal juicer for my beginning into juicing.
I agree with your points on an auger juicer, but at the moment my budget can not fulfil this purchase. Would I be wasting money in purchasing a higher end ($99-$150) centrifugal juicer?.
Thanking you in advance,
Max
From Sara:Hi Max, congratulations for taking the first step to turn around your lifestyle for the better. I totally understand your situation. As an ardent juicer and one who puts health first, I cannot bring myself to tell you to proceed with the purchase of a centrifugal juicer for all the reasons I've stated on my site.
I cannot recommend a centrifugal juicer because of the oxidation of the juices which I prefer not to consume. Even if you didn't mind the oxidation, the juice doesn't taste as good as those extracted using an auger juicer. There is about 20-25% wastage on the produce. Moreover, per your health conditions stated above, you need to juice plenty of vegetables and you simply can't do that with any centrifugal juicer.
My suggestion ... I'd rather you do without a juicer for the next few months while saving up to invest in a good gear juicer which would last you a lifetime; than to buy a centrifugal juicer now which you will regret few months down the road. Trust me on this.
You can probably also look for a used gear juicer here. Please also read:
