Ideas on keeping a kitchen conducive to healthy eating

I like the thought and benefits of juicing your own vegetables and fruit, but preparation to juice is time consuming as well as cleaning up afterwards. I know there are no easy answers, but how can you keep your kitchen looking good and functional and gear it towards a more healthier lifestyle? What about storing those vegetables for later juicing? Thank you.

From Sara:

Mitch, contrary to what most people think, juicing is really not very time consuming. The key is in the type of juicer you use. I suggest investing in a good gear juicer that is easy to assemble, operate and wash up.

I personally juice every day and it takes me just about 15 minutes to prepare my juice ingredients, assemble the juicer, the actual juicing, drink, and wash up the juicer afterwards. Washing up a gear juicer is a breeze and takes only under 2 minutes. And a drink of juice is so much healthier than any other meal that you prepare by cooking.

When you invest in a good gear juicer like the Alpha Juicer or a Matstone, you can leave only the motor on your kitchen counter top, ready to be used at any time. The other parts can be put away from sight. As for me, I put them in a little basket on the side, easily accessible. Your juicer must be easily available and SEEN, so that it would motivate you to juice more often.

Store your vegetables in the refrigerator, put them in air-tight containers or wrap them up in plastic -- they should keep for up to one week. I don't usually recommend storing juices because the vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables are lost very rapidly once cut up. Drink your juices immediately to get the most of the nutrients.

Happy juicing!
