How can I increase my platelet count?

by Shanna Tennyson
(Ferndale, WA)

My platelets are extremely low and causing a lot of fatigue. I have Hep C and my liver function is not great right now. My doctor would like to do a liver biopsy but is waiting for my platelets to come up.

I have cut out alcohol of course and have been juicing daily. Also I have reduced any sugar and salt. No fatty food (I never liked junk food anyway). I cook from scratch for my family and we follow (not strictly) a healthy whole food diet.

My normal juicing drank in morning consist of combinations of the following: Beets, Carrots, Apple, Ginger, Kale, Spinach, Cucumber, Pear, Melons, Beet Greens and Dandelion Greens.

Thank you for your time.
Shanna

From Sara:

Hi Shanna,

In my country Malaysia, dengue fever is very common. Dengue fever is caused by viruses that are being transmitted by infected Aedes mosquitoes.

Some of the symptoms of dengue fever are: very high fever, nausea, headache and dangerously low blood platelets count.

Two of my friends were admitted to the hospital last year and we helped out by making for them, fresh juices from papaya leaves. Papaya leaf is known to contain very high amounts of vitamins A, C, E, K, B Complex and especially high in B17 (laetrile, which is used for the treatment of cancer).

After taking the papaya leaf juice, my friends' blood platelets count increased rapidly and they were out of the hospital within days. One of them reported their platelets count at a dangerous level of only 8 (normal count is 150 and above). One week after she was discharged, her platelets count shot up to above 300.

To make this papaya leaf juice, clean the leaf and carefully cut out the stem. Juice the whole leaf using a gear juicer. If you don't have a gear juicer, blend the leaves using a food processor/blender, then put them in a filter cloth to squeeze out the juice. Try to get 1 tablespoon worth of this fresh juice to be drunk twice a day. The taste is horribly bitter so get a piece of lemon to standby for sucking afterwards. DO NOT drink water (or other fluids) immediately after to allow the concentrated juice to work its miracle.

I believe that by continuing to take the papaya leaf juice it might even help with your other problems.

If you can't find fresh papaya leaves, you may consider using this papaya leaf extract. Some people have found it to be beneficial.

Get well soon, Shanna. God bless.

Papaya Magic
by: Jefson

Thank you for creating this educational site because I am suffering from dengue too. I learned from you how to increase my platelet because my current platelet now is 100.

Papaya trees are very common here in Philippines you can see them anywhere: backyards, orchards, farms, and also all along the highway. I am just 11 years old but I want to manage myself already.

3 months ago I planted papaya tree at our backyard and now it has already bore fruit. In just few more days it can be harvested. Here in Philippines you will have no problem with papayas because the climate here is tropical so its common. Goodbye see you next time!!

where to get papaya leaf
by: Anonymous

I found a great source online for organic papaya leaf. The company Herbal Papaya stocks the organic tea, leaves and extract capsules at a great deal and they have shipped very quickly to me. They are also on Amazon. Check them out at www.herbalpapaya.com I recommend them highly.

Increase platelets thru diet and foot massage
by: Anonymous

My son had low platelet count and declining for 6 days. I am out of options and strength so my last recourse was to massage his feet to help blood circulation. I did it for both feet, about 30 mins each last night. (my mother got better from this when she was suffering from leptospirosis) also, we tried not to feed sugary foods like donuts, pastries, instead focus on fruits which my son love. We fed him slices of apples also known to increase platelets, grapes, and tomato. We also started giving him vit c as food supplement. Yesterday his platelet was 98, all time low, then this afternoon its 152!

Platelet level rising
by: Janine

My platelets were low due to chemo. Under 100 for over 5 weeks which impacted my receiving treatments. After taking the papaya leaf juice it rose to 120 which enabled me to be treated. Even after treatment my platelets haven't gone below 102. It is a miracle for me!

US - Fresh Papaya Leaves
by: Anonymous

Finding fresh papaya leaves is difficult to locate in the US; however, I scoured the Internet and found Glaser Organic Farms in Miami, FL. I ordered my 1st shipment yesterday and they arrived overnight. Today, I made the leaf juice w/ my Juicer .. wow! very bitter. The leaves arrived fresh and in tact. It's a bit expensive for overnight delivery but worth it if it really increases platelet count.

Where to find papaya leaves
by: Sara Ding

Dear Nicoletta,

I don't think you can buy papaya leaves. Papaya is a tropical fruit. If you live in tropical country, walk around your neighborhood to see if there are papaya trees and you can request the papaya leaves from the tree owner.

Papaya leaf juice
by: Kanwal Nalwa

Papaya leaf juice works like magic...just 2 tablespoons a day...on Thursday my count was 23 and on Monday it was 194...but you cannot take it endlessly and need a blood count to be done to keep it in check coz above 440 is dangerous too....even the juice of bittergourd helps...take care...
