Hamilton Beach Proctor Silex Juice Machine

by Frank
(Bonita Springs, FL)

The Juice Machine---1991?

The Juice Machine---1991?

We recently bought this machine at a yard sale. Seemed like a good opportunity to try juicing. However this machine, called "The Juice Machine", made in about 1991 by Hamilton-Beach Proctor Silex came without the instructions.

It appears to have been used some but not a lot. We cannot figure out how to clean it properly. The white top part does not seem to come off so we can get at the underside of the blade to clean it.

Of course it is a centrifugal machine of low power and after reading up on juicers I see it is an inferior machine but might be ok for beginners, us. My wife is a little skeptical of it so I could use some help to get it ready to try out. I searched around the internet but could not find anything on this old machine yet. Probably if we like the results at all we will move to a better quality one. Help!

Frank

From Sara:

Hi Frank, frankly I have no idea about this machine too. The top white part should come off to be washed. Try pulling it a little harder as there might be a catch at the bottom that holds it.

Anyway, I'll be posting your question on my site, in case somebody might be able to help. You could also try to contact Hamilton Beach directly to see if their technical department could help.

You can contact Hamilton Beach here.

Appreciate the help in getting my juicer apart for cleaning. Just a simple firm tug and out comes the cutting screen. The rest was easy. Saved trying to get in touch the manufacturer. Have a great new year.

wow
by: kevin

I just got one of these today for $1. It works great, i made some bell pepper/carrot/apple juice. I was apprehensive about disassembling it without instructions, but I figured out it just takes a little more force that I would expect. I can't believe there are so many comments about a 20 year old hunk of technology coming back around. $1 for a product that has lasted 20 years. I bet if I spent $20 on a new one today it wouldn't last one year.

Pull the round metal piece off the top. Pull hard. You will not break it, trust me!

Juice Machine
by: Anonymous

I obtained the same juicer at from a neighbor. It works very well for small amounts. As already mentioned, the sieve just pulls off, although some effort is required. I might add that a great way to clean the sieve is to use a new toothbrush dedicated for this purpose to scrub it clean. Works great!

JUST SMEAR SOME COOKING OIL as suggested by someone
by: Anonymous

I smear some oil everytime I use this and never attach the blade when not in use. This is a foolproof idea. Thank you for suggestion.

I had the same problem - I discovered that if you turn grated screen a little then pull up it will come off and you can remove the top of the machine to clean. It has a 3 notched plastic catch the holds it. So turning a little and pulling up will release the screen.

the juice machine
by: Anonymous

I purchased this juicer from a thrift store and I had the same problem of removing the blade for washing.I have smeared some oil at the base of it and also at the place where it gets attached to the main body. All my problems are solved.I make mix veg and fruit juice every day.I use 3 apples,1 carrot 1/2 bunch celery and a very tiny beetroot to make two glasses of juice.

THANKS!
by: Anonymous

Frank, you and I have the same problem. I bought the exact same juicer at a garage sale and keep having a problem getting the blade out. After much tugging and twisting it comes off, but I never know how I got it off. By coming online I learned that you have to pull it up to get it off. Thanks for posting this and to all the folks who gave us the answers! I do love juicing, and I will be buying a better quality juicer in the future. Thanks again.

Juicer Dissasembly
by: Anonymous

It looks almost identical to the one i have, the only difference being the shape of the cup the juice is collected in. To dissasemble mine I remove the round metal grate part that spins by pulling straight up on it. It fits fairly tight so it requires some effort and wiggling to remove it. Once its out of the way the plastic top is removed by turning it about an 8th of a turn then lifting off.

Hamilton Beach Proctor Silex Juice Machine
by: Anonymous

I recently acquired this same machine and lost the manual. I had the same problem--the top white portion wouldn't come off. So I played around with it and discovered that if you unplug it and then turn the dial to 1, the top portion releases. Again, not sure if this is the correct method, but it worked for me.

Thanks

I appreciate your help. We're waiting with bated breath for some information on this from anyone. I did send mail to Hamilton Beach. I'm a little afraid to pull too hard on the top for fear of breaking it.
