GI Distress with juicing

by Tom Futch
(Tucson, AZ)

I have The Complete Book of Juicing and a great Juicer. For the past 2 yrs, I have tried numerous combinations of both fruits and vegetables. However, everytime I do a juicing, I have problems with my GI tract- gurgling, irritation in the stomach and loose bowels.

In short, I don't seem to be able to tolerate this in my diet, but sincerely wish to do alot more juicing. But every time I do so, I suffer for it....

Why can I not tolerate juicing??

Jack LaLane has all of his life and enjoys good health. How can someone make the switch over and enjoy juicing without all of the discomfort??

Thanks, Tom Futch, MD

From Sara:

Tom, I salute you for your determination to persist on with juicing despite the problems you face with your gastro-intestines ... and recognising that the problem is in your GI.

I'm going to suggest something different to you. I would say, put aside juicing for now. Instead, work on improving your GI health first through a GI detox. Search your local market for a high quality psyllum husk fiber (probably from your health food store). Have the store attendant teach you how to take the psyllum husk fiber and take it 3-4 times a day for about 10-14 days. In between the fiber drink, also take a mixture of 1 tsp pure honey and 1 tsp apple cider vinegar in 200 ml pure drinking water. Drink this as much as you can throughout the day during your detox program.

(Note: Be sure to use only pure raw honey which are the murky ones, not the clear processed ones. The clear ones are full of sugar and is harmful. The apple cider vinegar must also be the murky one with sediments at the bottom, not the clear processed ones. Bragg's is a good brand in this case.)

During this time, also take a high quality probiotics that you get from your health food store. The absence of good bacteria is the cause of your GI problem. Don't drink juices during this program.

After your 10-14 days program, you will find an improvement with your GI health. Then start juicing first with carrots and green apples which are the mildest form of juice and most nutritious. Then see how your stomach responds to it and report back.

Happy detoxing !
