Fat loss during juicing

Hello Sara: thank you for answering my previous question ... I have one more.
I was reading about the amount of pounds/kgs, you shed in your "own" juice detox fast experience ... you talked a little bit about how the fat is stored and how one must avoid eating spices/ any kinds of solids or fat as to avoid starting up the digestive system during the day (which will make you feel hungry).
My question is though, how is the fat you shed used up during the juice detox fast? I mean, is it just water weight that is lost or is the body actually "using up" fat reservoirs to make up for the lack of food/energy coming in to the body? Also, how long a fast must you be on to experience this kind of weight loss (4 or 5 days, etc?)
I'd greatly appreciate your help. I'm slowly getting used to longer fasts and have tried a few so far.
Thank you.
Dorothy
From Sara:Dorothy, some weight loss during a fast of more than three days are often to be expected, although some would experience more kg loss than the other. Each body is different. You guessed correctly ... and as I mentioned, some of these weight loss are due to your consumption of green juices that are rich in potassium.
When there is more potassium than sodium in your system, a lot of water retention is released that may have caused some weight loss.
Another reason for weight loss during fasting is that, in the absence of food, your body cells feed on the other dead tissues and fats. The longer you fast, the more these fats will be used up to fuel energy for your body.
It is very important during fasting to take plenty of nutrition. Total fasts (without solids and liquids) are not recommended for more than three days unless you know what you are doing.
Nutrition during fasting, especially from green juices, nurtures your cells, repairs cells, heal and rebuild. It is the opposite of starvation when there is no nutrition.
