Does chayote (vegetable) juice bring your blood pressure down?

by Rosa
(Philadelphia, PA, USA)

A friend of mine went to Brazil and forgot to take her blood pressure meds. Her brazilian friend made some juice using one chayote (pear shaped vegetable) with some water. She says it did bring her blood pessure down.

From Sara:

Thank you for bringing this up. Chayote has many names, also known as: sayote, tayota, choko, chocho, chow-chow, christophene, mirliton. It has a mild taste and can be consumed as how you would a cucumber.

This vegetable pear-like fruit is an excellent source of amino acids and vitamin C. It is diuretic, protects the cardiovascular and has high anti-inflammatory properties.

In some parts of the world, chayote is commonly used to treat arteriosclerosis, hypertension and to dissolve kidney stones.
