Can I take off this weight once and for all?

by Diana
(Los Angeles, CA)

I just purchased an Omega Vert, and am planning on starting a weight loss program STAT to lose 50 pounds by Christmas! I would like to eat 1 meal per day and juice the rest of my meals. What are your thoughts on this and will I have enough energy to do physical activity as well?

I am a 48 yr old woman with a huge waist! I am 5'9 and am 80-100 pounds overweight. Cholestrol is 200, blood pressure normal. I own my own biz, and I work out only when I work my route, 4 hours per week. I just bought this wonderful juicer and need help with recipes and a menu guide to help me shed this weight. I love sugar and carbs... and protein! Basically I love to EAT!!! HELP! I am a mess. Thanks so much for your help!

Diana, congratulations on taking the first step towards a slimmer and healthier YOU, by investing in a good gear juicer!

Usually, I would recommend people like you who "have a huge waist" to do a gastro-intestinal (GI) cleansing and a colon cleansing if possible in order for your weight-loss to be more effective and more permanent.

Do visit your local health store and enquire about GI cleansing with psyllum husk. Ask them how to take and how long to take it (usually about 7-14 days). I can't advise you from here as different brands may have different dosages. Go for as high quality as you can afford. Do this simultaneously with your juicing.

After that, check locally where you can do colon-cleansing, or learn to do it at home.

Try to do at least the full course of GI cleansing which helps tremendously later for absorption of vitamins and minerals that you will be consuming from your juicing.

For weight loss, I suggest you drink more of the green juices and less of the fruit juices, especially the sweeter ones. Please check out the Healing Foods page for some ideas of greens that you can use for juicing. Greens also include green apples, lemons, grapefruits and tomatoes.

Start with a small amount of green juice (4-6 oz), check your tolerance level and gradually increase the amount till you can comfortably drink two to three glasses (8oz) throughout the day. In between meals/juices, if you feel like snacking, try to snack on greens instead (celery, green apples, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, etc.) Also juice a medium-sized beetroot (with 1/4 lemon+peel) once a week for detoxifying your liver.

What you're trying to get are an abundance of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytonutrients. These in the form of green juices are the ones that will help melt those fats away. But juicing doesn't replace drinking water. You will still need to drink 8-10 (8oz) glasses of pure water. Please also read about Holistic Nutrition.

I know what you mean when you say you "love to EAT!!" I used to be like that too, and who doesn't? But the real reason we always have that cravings is that our body is telling us to keep eating in order to get the much deprived nutrients. As long as we don't give our body those nutrients, the cravings will always be there. Once we begin to eat/drink properly, nourishing our cells with all the nutrition, the cravings will begin to go away. Then you will find that you no longer crave the "harmful foods" that you used to crave.

A juice toast to you! Do take a before/after picture and write back in December to share your success!
