Calorie Counting for Juicers

by Kim Bilbrey
(Palatine, IL)

I've been juicing for about a month now and I'm absolutely addicted. My problem is trying to figure out the calorie count of the various juices I make. Is there a formula for calculating how many calories come out of the juiced component of the fruit? One of my books lists the calorie count of its recipes but most of them don't.

From Sara:

Kim, I won't worry about the calories if I were you. Fresh fruits and vegetables have very low calories, too low to worry about, yet enough to provide you the real energy you need.

Generally, the higher the water content, the lower the calorie. Calorie count can go as low as 1 in endives up to about 107 in a banana, with most fruits/vegetables having calorie counts of under 50. So you can see that these fresh whole foods are very low in calories, if that is your concern.

Forget calorie counting and start enjoying your juices!!
