Am I getting enough protein and vitamin B12?

by Michael
(West Paterson, New Jersey)

I have looked around and did not find anything on protein and B-12. So my question is am I getting enough protein and vitamin B-12 with my juicing fruits and vegetables? Should I supplement B-12? I do put in a teaspoon of Spirulina with my juices.

I do appreciate your time in answering my questions and I just love your website, keep up the good work!

From Sara:

Michael, good question. A question I get often from people who are more incline towards a vegetarian diet.

You can get complete protein from the less-desired meat sources, or combine several incomplete protein from plant sources.

Some of the good sources of plant proteins are from (but not limited to):

Grains: quinoa, brown rice, soybeans, wheatgerm, chickpeas.

Nuts/seeds: sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, almonds.

Vegetables: beans and lentils, broccoli, spinach, potatoes.

Algae: spirulina and chlorella - complete proteins.

Please learn more about protein on this page that details everything you need to know to get quality proteins that are usable and easily digestible. This is important in order that you do not create unnecessary stress to your internal organs and health from the less-desired protein sources.
