How I Started My Website

Well, I've never spoken publicly like this about my personal life, but my health actually started taking a dip when my marriage failed.

I began to neglect my health.  Eating was a way of escape from my misery, not caring what I ate and when I ate.  It was no wonder that my health got to such a bad state.

Though I regretted that my marriage didn't turn out the way I wanted it to be, I'm glad today that something good had actually emerged out of it.  That I've been able to reach out to others through my website and it has done a great job at it.

I'm sharing my personal journey here because I have received many emails from people all over the world, telling me how they have been blessed with my sharing on this site.  I appreciate all these feedback and I want you to know that they mean a lot to me.

I also received many enquiries asking me about this website and about SBI (SBI stands for Site Build It! or sometimes SiteSell.  It is the company I host my site with).  Thank you all for asking.  I will attempt to share with you as much as I can, about my journey with this website and how it has changed my life tremendously.

A Little Background

You may have read about my story from Sitesell's case studies.  If not, I'll just share here again briefly with a little variation ...

When my marriage crumbled, I found myself desperately in need of extra income.  I tried my hand at various part-time businesses and joined many MLM companies in my bid to earn more money. But none was successful, because I didn't know how to sell. I was disillusioned.

I took up self-study courses, read books on marketing and motivation.  The books taught me much but it didn't work for me as I still didn't like selling.  I fear rejection, and I also didn't like the idea of taking money from people even though I had great products for them.

I continued my search. Working a full-time job is hard enough for a single mom, so I didn't want to have to take up a second job and be away from my children more than necessary. I started looking for something I could do from home, after office hours.

I turned to the internet and read everything I could about "working from home." I dabbled with "home typing," "online surveys," "mystery shopping," "data entry," etc. but soon got tired of the long hours and very little or almost no income.

It was sometime in 2005 when my brother found SBI. While he was so enthusiastic about his discovery, I was like "ho hum."  For a single mom like me, every dollar counted and I was tired of all the scams that were around.

However, one day, I actually took a look at SBI, the thing that my brother was bragging so much about. I read and devoured everything on Sitesell.com. The main thing that really drew me to sign-up was the "money-back guarantee." No harm trying, I thought, and if I didn't do well I could always ask for my money back.

Things Were Looking UP

Right from the beginning I wanted to ensure my site works, so I followed the Action Guide closely.  It was like attending a webmasters course, but the wonderful thing was that it was really simple to follow and I could do it at my own pace, in my own home, at my own time, even while my children were asleep.

After about a year, I managed to write only about 80 pages. Since I worked very long and demanding hours at my full-time job, I didn't have much time left to work on the site.

I would come home late from work, spend time with my children, put them to bed, and then work on my site. Little by little I prodded on. Sometimes, I was so excited, I would stay up till 4 AM to complete a page. And then it was time to wake up at 5.30 AM to prepare my children for school.

This went on for many nights. On good nights, I would get to sleep 5-6 hours. Of course, I would feel sleepy sometimes, but my fresh juices kept me going.

During all this time, I was pleasantly surprised to see my site traffic increasing, albeit slowly.  I had tried my hands at creating other websites before but of course without the knowledge of creating a successful website, my previous sites were flops.  This makes me appreciate SBI very much.

After a while, I stopped looking to this site to provide me the extra income.  It has quickly become a burning passion.  In fact, the passion had become so overwhelming that I get frustrated sometimes that I have so much to write about and so little time to get down to it.  In fact, things are just brewing on the other hand, to start another website soon.
 

Passion PRE-Sells!

Many other opportunities came my way as I begin to receive unexpected calls and emails from people.  Income just kept flowing in from sale of juicers every now and then.  There were also proposals for other businesses, some a one-time deal and others have long-standing impact.

Bear in mind, at this point, I still didn't like to sell.  But I LOVE this business!  It gives me the money and yet I didn't have to sell.  It is my site that does all the pre-selling.  When people call me, their minds are already made up to make that purchase.  This is the power of PRE-selling, exactly what the SBI course has taught me.  My passion shows through my site and people WANT to buy from others who are passionate about their products.

I was constantly amazed at the result of my site and the effect it has on people.  The feedbacks I've been getting are so encouraging.  I know that all these are only possible because of SBI, as my traffic continue to increase daily, and my site began to gain more and more recognition.

One visitor told me, no matter what keyword he used relating juicing, he kept finding my site.  Even I am amazed sometimes at how effective SBI is.

I'm In No Better Position Than You

Enough already, I hope you don't find me bragging.  But I'm simply sharing this with you because I know if I can do this, you can too.  Why?  Because I have so little time in hand (I still hold a full-time job), so little resources, being a single mom and having two young kids to look after.

I'm not a super woman but I am at an advantage because I have a powerful tool in SBI that helps me build my (part-time but soon-to-be full-time) business out of nothing.  But I do have to admit, determination and commitment do play an important role.  Having sufficient faith in SBI, I was determined to continue pressing on.
