Somebody was asking me, "Why eat cucumber? What good is cucumber? It has no nutritional value." I told her, "How wrong you are!" Cucumber may not be the best of plant foods, but it has nutritional values that are beyond understanding. People seem to think that cucumbers are just cooling and that's all. True, cucumbers are cooling, but they have far more important healing properties.
The next day, another person told me that
she didn't like the taste of cucumber. She would not eat it
because it has no taste and there's nothing good about a cucumber.
I feel sorry for the cucumber, ;-P
This moisture, or water, is effective in removing toxins from the body. It is also high in anti-oxidant (vitamin A and C). Cucumbers are also cooling and helps counter the heatiness and acidity of certain foods, which is why it is often served together with barbecued or fried foods.
Let's see what a cucumber is really good for, you will be surprised with what it can do for you: Acidity: The alkalinity of the minerals in cucumber juice effectively helps in regulating the body's blood pH, neutralizing acidity. The juice is also soothing for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. Connective tissues, building: The excellent source of silica contributes to the proper construction of connective tissues in our body as in the bones, muscles, cartilage, ligaments and tendons. Diuretic: Cucumber juice is diuretic, encouraging waste removal through urination. This also helps in the dissolution of kidney stones. Inflammation: The Chinese think that cucumbers are too "cooling" and not suitable for people with rheumatism. But we know now that cucumber can help counter uric acids that are causing inflammation in joints. When cucumber is taken it does its cleaning work at the joints, thus stirring up pain as it eliminates the uric acid. This means it also help other inflamed conditions like arthritis, asthma, and gout. Skin conditions: The high amount of vitamin C and anti-oxidants in cucumber makes it an important ingredient in many beauty creams for treating eczema, psoriasis, acne, etc. Check out the many more health benefits of cucumber.
Cucumber is an excellent source of silicon and sulfur that helps promote hair growth. This recipe blends very well and takes away the bland taste of cucumber.
- 1 medium-sized cucumber - 2 medium-sized carrots - 1 orange - a small bunch of spinach
JUICY TIP:
To encourage a fussy child to drink, let her drink out of a fancy cup that she likes. Use that cup for juices only, so that she will look forward to using that cup.
