ISSUE # 02/07 (September 2007)JUICY NEWS is a bi-monthly free newsletter brought to you by Juicing-for-Health.com. You are receiving this newsletter because you have opted in at our Newsletter Subscription Page. OR, you have previously made contact with Juicing-for-Health.com for one reason or another. Dear Friend, Welcome to the SECOND issue of JUICY NEWS. This newsletter is started by popular requests from my site visitors. Many of you have told me that you "used to enjoy juicing but have forgotten about the joy of juicing until you came to my site, thus your joy of juicing is renewed".
This newsletter aims to be THAT constant reminder to you to keep on with juicing, and to hold your hand in your walk to a healthier lifestyle :-)
Each issue, I will feature a fruit or a vegetable item and break down its healthful properties. I will also be sharing an easy yet delicious recipe that you can make with that featured item.
This issue, it's the CANTALOUPE ...
I was excited about this fruit when I found that it contains an astoundingly high level of beta-carotene and anti-oxidant. Much more so than many other melons that are in its family. Here are some highlights ... Arteriosclerosis: Regularly consuming juices high in anti-oxidant retards the development of hardening of the arteries. Cancer prevention: The anti-oxidant content protects cells from damages by free radicals. This helps keep cancer at bay, especially against intestinal cancer and melanoma. Cholesterol: Drinking juices high in anti-oxidant has been proven to fight the oxidative stress that is the main culprit in oxidizing the LDLs in the blood. High blood pressure: Potassium in this muskmelon promotes excretion of sodium, thus bringing down high blood pressure especially in those with salt-sensitive hypertension. Menstruation problems: For women, drink this wonder juice around the time of menstruation to reduce heavy flow, clots and water retention.

NUTRITION HIGHLIGHT: CANTALOUPE
The two compounds that are outstanding in cantaloupe are its vitamin A (beta-carotene) and C (anti-oxidant).
Vitamin A can be toxic if you consume too much of it in supplement form. However, when it's taken in the form of beta-carotene (from fruits and vegetables), will be safely transformed into vitamin A. Consumption of vitamin A have been linked to lower risks of cataracts, heart diseases and cancers.
Vitamin C, also known as the ascorbic acid, is an anti-oxidant that can fight damages caused by free radicals. High consumption of vitamin C has been associated with lower risks of arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), heart diseases, cancers, oxidation of cholesterol and many more modern diseases.
This easy-to-make smoothie recipe is rich in vitamin C and low in calories. It builds your immune system and protects against intestinal cancer.
Wait at least 30 minutes before consuming other solids.
Cantaloupe Crush
- 1 cup kiwi fruit, peeled, and cut into cubes - 1/2 cup vanilla fat-free yogurt - raw honey to taste, diluted in 1/2 cup water
If you like your smoothie cold, put
the cubed cantaloupe and kiwi fruit in the freezer for about 20 minutes
to frost (not frozen). Put all
the ingredients into a blender or your food processor. Blend
for 2-3 minutes or until smooth (depending on your blender). Drink
immediately.
JUICY TIP:
If you are a regular juicer, keep a tooth brush in your kitchen where you juice. Brush your teeth every time after juicing to ensure that you protect your teeth from sugar corrosion.
