Hi

Welcome to the FIRST issue of JUICY NEWS.  This newsletter is started by popular requests from my site visitors. Many of you have told me that you "used to enjoy juicing but have forgotten about the joy of juicing until you came to my site, thus your joy of juicing is renewed".

This newsletter aims to be THAT constant reminder to you to keep on with juicing, and to hold your hand in your walk to a healthier lifestyle :-)

Each issue, I will feature a fruit or a vegetable item and break down its healthful properties.  I will also be sharing an easy yet delicious recipe that you can make with that featured item.

This issue, it's MR PECTIN PEAR ...

Chinese pear

It's summer in some parts of the world, and definitely in my part of the world. The heat is indescribable, a walk outside is like walking in an outdoor oven.

This heat also causes many health problems especially if you don't drink enough fluids.  Take plenty of pear juice during this time to keep the doctor away.

There are many fruit juices that can help cool you down in this heat, but I've chosen the pear because it has many health benefits that most people are unaware of.

When shopping for pears, try to choose the Chinese pears where possible, as they have the most medicinal values. Generally, here are only some of the health benefits of a pear:

Cholesterol: The high content of pectin in pears makes it very useful in helping to lower cholesterol levels.

Constipation: Pear juice is diuretic and has a mild laxative effect.  Regular consumption helps regulate bowel movements.

Energy: You can get quick and natural source of energy from pear juice, due largely to its high amounts of fructose and glucose.

Fever: The cooling effect in pear is excellent in relieving fever.  Best way to bring a fever down quickly is by drinking a big glass of pear juice.

Shortness of breath: The summer heat may cause children to  have shortness of breath with excessive phlegm.  Give them pear juice during this period to help clear the phlegm.

Throat problem: The pears are in season during the summer for a reason.  Drinking pear juice every morning and night helps to cool your body down during this time.  It nourishes the throat and helps prevent throat problems.

NUTRITION HIGHLIGHT: PECTIN

Pear has high content of pectin.  Pectin is a natural soluble fiber that can also be found in many other fruits, mostly on the rinds or in the pulp.

Consumption of pectin protects against colon cancer, reduces inflammation, arthritic pain and stiffness.  It has a unique ability to decrease body's fat absorption, thus lowering cholesterol levels.

Pectin, which can also be found in high amounts in apples, eliminates constipation, diarrhea, and regulates blood glucose levels.

Additionally, pectin has boron which boosts mental alertness and reduces calcium loss that leads to osteoporosis.

HEALTHFUL SMOOTHIE RECIPE USING PEAR

This simple-to-make smoothie recipe is rich in the necessary nutrients and soluble fiber that help to gently cleanse the colon by binding toxins and eliminating them from your body.

Best consumed in the morning between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM on empty stomach.  Wait at least 30 minutes before consuming other solids.

Peary Good Flush

- Peel and core 1 medium-sized pear, cut into cubes

- Peel and core 1 medium-sized apple, cut into cubes

- Juice 1 medium-sized pear (using a gear juicer where possible)

- 1 teaspoon psyllium seed powder OR 1 tablespoon flaxseed powder OR 1-2 tablespoon cooked oat bran
- Juice a 2-inch piece of fresh ginger
- Ice cubes if desired

Put all this into a blender and blend for 2-3 minutes or until smooth (depending on your blender). Drink immediately.

JUICY TIP:

When juicing for health reason, it is best to drink your fresh juice in room temperature. Leave your fruits out at least 30 minutes before you juice.
